Powerful voice and a unique stage presence are two characteristics often used about soprano Eli Kristin Hanssveen.

The soprano from Hadeland made her debut at the Norwegian Opera and Ballet in 2002, and became a soloist from 2007. She’s performed a number of strong female characters, including Gilda in Rigoletto, Norina in Don Pasquale, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos and Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute. She also recently starred as Violetta in La Traviata, with the Norwegian Opera and Ballet and Stavanger. She's also played Solveig in the Peer Gynt faire at Gålå, and Margrethe at the world premiere of the heavy metal opera Faust.

In the autumn of 2013 she played Eurydice in Gluck's Orpheus. In spring 2014 she sings Musetta in La Bohème. She'll also star in Hege og Øivind går til Operaen with Hege Schøyen, Øivind Blunck and Thor Inge Falch.

Other upcoming engagements includes Opera Trøndelag, Fjord Cadenza Festical in Skodje and Lidal North International Opera Workshop. In 2015 she'll sing the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Opera in Kristiansund.

She's released several CDs, and in 2013 she released her first solo-CD with opera arias: Sempre libera.

Eli Kristin Hanssveen has covered many genres, from opera to popular music to folk songs. She also came in the top 3 in the TV show "Stjernekamp", where all the artists competed in different genres throughout the season.

In 2009 she was the first singer to receive one of Norway's biggest scholarships within culture, the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation's opera and ballet prize.
